Utilizing Energize Connecticut programs available through the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund and administered by The United Illuminating Company, Calabro Cheese Corporation, an East Haven-based family owned cheese company, completed four energy efficiency projects in 2012 and 2013. Over the next 10 years, the energy efficiency projects are expected to pay for themselves by providing estimated $95,769 saved annually on energy bills and a $56,457 incentive payment available through the Fund.
Upgrades made include comprehensive lighting retrofit, refrigeration motor replacement, steam trap survey, repair and replacement. Calabro also participated in a compressed air leak study which led to the installation of new compressed air distribution system and steam trap insulation, including remote monitoring.
Calabro Cheese’s proactive energy savings initiatives garner recognition by the Fund in the form of the Energy Efficiency Leadership Award. The United Illuminating Company worked with the business to identify opportunities, implement energy savings solutions and comply with requirements to receive rebates and incentives made available through Connecticut’s Energy Efficiency programs.
