Looking Good, East Haven: Town Green Gets A Face Lift & Archway

Designed to resemble the historic one at the Old Stone Cemetery, the Town Green now has an arch, in addition to many other improvements.

EAST HAVEN, CT — The "Town Green is the heart of our community," Mayor Joseph A Carfora said as the latest, and most visible, of the Town Green Beautification project was revealed Wednesday.

Carfora thanked the Blue Ribbon Committee, which was assembled to provide feedback and design on the project, in a statement to Patch noting that there was a great need to "improve this space."

The Green now features a new brick walkway, plantings, lighting and an "archway that resembles the historic design of the Old Stone Cemetery arch which will welcome folks to our green."

The brick walkway will be lined with personally engraved bricks to commemorate special people and memories.

As reported previously by Patch, the effort was a collaborative one between Carfora, the Town Green Beautification Committee and town public works staff.

Carfora said the "vision was brought to life" through design layouts created by the skillful and talented" Mark Papa of Sophora LLC and from artist renderings to the skilled brick laying to Angelo Lieto of Lieto Construction, the "vision became a reality."

"This project would not have been possible without the hard-working and dedicated Public Works employees who took great pride in this creation," Carfora said. "Our Town Green will be enjoyed by generations to come."

Note: Due to an editing error, two contractors were not congratulated in this post.

Carfora said that Marc Amato of Amato Landcaping did "beautiful, fine work on the landscaping in the Green. We are very grateful." He also noted that Tony Maresca of American Iron Works, responsible for the new arch "are to be commended."

"The work they did is stunning," Carfora said, adding, "On behalf of the whole town, I thank them both."
