Maltese Says He Would Have Earned Mayoral Nomination If It was a Paper Ballot
Maltese lost a close roll-call vote to incumbent Mayor Joseph Maturo Jr. for the GOP's mayoral nomination.

Salvatore Maltese says if the Republican Town Committee had decided on a mayoral nominee via a paper ballot as opposed to an open roll-call it would have been him and not incumbent Mayor Joseph Maturo Jr. who would have received the party’s nomination, the New Haven Register reports.
In 2011, the last time Maturo had a Republican opponent a paper ballot was issued, but this year an open roll-call vote was taken, the Register reports.
Maturo defeated Maltese last month by a 35-27 vote for the party’s nomination, and GOP leaders stressed that the roll-call vote was the right way to decide the nomination.
