EAST HAVEN, CT — Police charged a 20-year-old from Massachusetts in what authorities described as an "unprovoked attack" on an occupied police cruiser at an overnight street takeover in November of 2025.

The officer was the first to arrive at the chaotic scene in a Foxon Road shopping plaza responding for a report of dozens of vehicles blocking the road, some performing burnouts, and with some setting off fireworks, according to East Haven police spokesperson Capt. Joseph M. Murgo.

It was just before 2:30 a.m. when the responding officer was "immediately confronted by several masked individuals, one of who sprayed his police cruiser with a fire extinguisher before throwing the extinguisher at the vehicle as other individuals lit off fireworks," Murgo described.

Many people there then "climbed onto the occupied police cruiser and began kicking the cruiser before fleeing but then returning to taunt officers at the scene," Murgo said. "The same vehicles were later observed in surrounding towns in what appeared to be an attempt to provoke similar encounters in nearby jurisdictions."

According to Murgo, the East Haven Police Department Investigative Services Division, led by Detective Sergeant Jeffrey Vailette, conducted an extensive investigation into the incident. He said that investigation led to the "development of several suspects and the securing of multiple arrest warrants in this case."

Murgo said with the help of Massachusetts State Police Revere Barracks, one of the suspects seen in multiple videos jumping on a police cruiser while filming himself was identified as Liam Timothy Walsh, 20, of Somerville, MA.

Vailette secured an arrest warrant for Walsh.

Walsh was taken into custody by the Massachusetts State Police Fugitive Task Force on March 18. He waived extradition and was transported to the East Haven Police Department Tuesday.

Walsh was charged with two counts of first-degree criminal mischief, second-degree breach of peace, inciting injury to persons or property, and unlawful assembly. Held on $100,000 bond, he's due in court Wednesday.

Additional suspects have already been identified, and this remains an active and ongoing investigation, Murgo said, adding that additional arrests are expected.

"The East Haven Police Department will continue to thoroughly investigate incidents of this nature and hold those responsible accountable," Murgo said.
