Maturo Issues Statement Concerning Tropical Storm Hermine
A Tropical Storm Warning is currently in effect for East Haven.

Statement from East Haven Mayor Joseph Maturo, Jr. Re: Post-Tropical Cyclone Hermine
Although most of the eastern seaboard including East Haven and the Connecticut shoreline remains under a Tropical Storm Warning, the National Weather Service is still indicting that the effects of that storm on the East Haven coastline may be somewhat limited due to the storm's location.
However this is a highly unorthodox storm with very difficult projections and my office and the Town Emergency Mangaement team will remain diligent and continue to monitor all updates for any significant changes. As I previously mentioned, our emergency services departments (Police, Fire and Public Services) have made significant preparations on Thursday and Friday and remained ready for any response that may become necessary.

Our Emergency Management Director and Fire Chief Doug Jackson continues to be in contact with State authorities and State Emergency Management and he is updating our team after every NWS statement. With Hermine’s current expected path, it is indicated that rainfall may be limited and certainly much less than most tropical situations. In addition although still possible winds may not exceed those of a weaker tropical storm; however I again emphasize these predications can change quickly and I can assure our residents that all town agencies are ready to respond quickly and efficiently if and when conditions make it necessary.
With that said of course our coastline is the area most vulnerable and our residents should take advantage of this calm period to make all necessary preparations.

All residents along the shore and in very flood prone areas should have plans in place in the event situations change quickly and it becomes necessary to relocate with family and friends. In addition while the major effects of the storm is not expected until possibly late Sunday evening into Monday, all homeowners should be prepared by securing all loose furniture, signs, decorations, etc. and of course to have the supplies necessary in the event of any extended power outages.
All items that are not tied down, including bulk trash and trash pails, should be moved indoors or secured, if possible. I would like homeowners to assist Public Service crews by cleaning the tops of the storm drains in the immediate vicinity of your home.
As today appears to be a much better weather day than originally predicted, our Town Beach is open and will remain open for the balance of this holiday, if WEATHER PERMITS ! Future announcements on the Beach can be found right here immediately after decisions are made.
