Mayor Distributes Groceries To Residents In Need
Mayor Joe Carfora spent part of sunny Saturday with East Haven Food Pantry volunteers loading groceries into cars for residents in need.

EAST HAVEN, CT — Just days before the beginning of what would become the new mayor's biggest test — a pandemic —, Joseph A. Carfora told Patch in a 'first 100 days on the job' interview that he's the kind of guy who walks the walk. Appearing reasonably comfortable behind a desk, Carfora however looks more at home in his natural habitat: out and about in the town "doing."
"I can say what I'm gonna do but I prefer just doing," he said in February.
Saturday, he donned a mask and joined the volunteers loading groceries into the cars of those in need. When asked for comment about why he was out there doing the work, Patch did not get an immediate reply. He'd said a few months ago he doesn't do the work he does for accolades. He does the work he does for his town. But Carfora did praise the work of the food pantry volunteers and director Dianne Romans.

"It’s a special place run by some very special people," he said noting that on Saturday, Romans was "out there on the frontlines on her birthday, giving back to the community. She’s a great role model and I was honored to partake in Saturdays pantry pickups."
