Mayor: Remember To Sign Up For Town Alerts

The notification system is for more than emergencies. It includes things like street closures, modified Town Hall hours, and important dates

EAST HAVEN, CT — The town purchased a subscription Everbridge, a mass-notification that will allow the town to disseminate emergency and non-emergency information to those in the community that register.

Mayor Joe Carfora is reminding folks to sign up.

Fire Chief Matt Marcarelli explained in a news release that East Haven already has a limited use agreement based off the state's reverse 911 system, but its use is limited to life threatening emergencies and can only be used under the direction of the state in order to limit message fatigue or a high number of opt-outs.

"We felt it may be useful to have our own system to make townspeople aware of important events in town like street closures, modified hours at Town Hall, important dates or other non-emergent information such as bulk trash pick-up, street sweeping or modified parking notifications," the fire chief said in a news release.

"The system dovetails nicely with the State managed system which is only for emergency use.

Carfora said that his "administration’s focus on transparency starts with getting as much information out to the public as practical and this system will help us do that when it’s appropriate to and will help us notify people in town who may not have internet access or email.”
