On a day when one expected to honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country, they deserved more from our Mayor more from a leader than Political insight on who he thinks should be the next Mayor of OUR TOWN. I expected to hear accolades for our fallen and words of endearment for the families that were present of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. Instead we heard who the current Mayor believes should be the next Mayor. I am appalled that Maturo would pick this day, of all days, to voice his opinion. This is a slap in the face to his Party, but most of all this is a slap in the face to all Veterans and all the residents of our town.
But make no mistake, this is a crafted political remark made to drive a wedge into the political process. He has not only slapped the face of every veteran but has surely shown that he has no faith in the very party that has elected him. To think he is above the Democratic process of choosing a Mayor, and to try to divide a party that is United has struck a new low for even this Mayor.
Why am I surprised, this is a man that has somehow fooled his own party into thinking it has never been his fault with a single issue in 18 yrs. I hope they are listening; he has now even stabbed you in the back. I have to say, this is the same party that has backed him when he made his infamous Taco comment, how he was not wrong in the sexual harassment charges brought against him, and the resulting settlement which will cost the taxpayers of East Haven 100’s of thousands of dollars was somehow a vindication! Surprisingly not one Republican female council person was offended by these comments and spoke out in public about it? He recently also trivialized the wall in Mexico to a recent lawsuit by a political opponent in his own party for a damaged wall. Why has not one Republican official come out and publicly condemned this Mayors actions. Apparently he and his party has no regard for all the citizens of East Haven. This Mayor should look to his own party that is divided and ask himself why? In fact we know he has asked Democratic elected town officials to throw their hat in the mayoral ring. He went as far as telling a Democratic Town Committee member that he doesn’t have the support of his own party. He should stop meddling into the political process of the Democratic party, when clearly the Republican Party is in divide and has multiple candidates that want him out. Mayor Maturo clearly you want to throw a division in the Democratic Party because one does not exist. The divide is in the Republican Party, the finger pointing is in the Republican Party so keep your comments and advice there. Since you are always in the State of Florida why don’t you just become a citizen and stay there 12 months a year. East Haven will be a better place for it.

In closing I would like to apologize to all the Veterans and their families on behalf of the Democratic Party who had to endure a political narcissistic statement at the hands of Mayor Joe Maturo on a day that should have been about those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. Most of all I hope my Republican colleagues join in calling this act for what it is, a disgrace.
