'Multiple' Hydrants On Private Lots, Rather Than Being Dug Out, Were Buried, With More Snow On The Way: FD
With more snow forecasted this week, firefighters say "please be aware of the hydrants in town, do your best to keep them clear of snow.

EAST HAVEN, CT — East Haven's firefighters, who were "out in force today ensuring that hydrants were cleared of snow and readily accessible in case of a fire," found a number of hydrants buried under mountains of snow.
"Unfortunately, multiple hydrants in private lots were found to be plowed in under many feet of snow," East Haven Firefighters Local 1205 wrote on Facebook.
"With more snow on the forecast this week, we ask members of the community to please be aware of the hydrants in town and do your best to keep them clear of snow."

Some municipalities have ordinances regulating snow removal around hydrants. And while no specific language could be found related to hydrants in the town's codes, it's generally expected that folks with hydrants on/near their property should clear at least three-feet around fire hydrants for emergency access.
