EAST HAVEN, CT — Fireworks are not canceled, just moved up one day.

Mayor Joseph A. Carfora and the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 484 are pleased to announced this year’s 20th Annual Fireworks/Beach Party celebration will take place on Sunday, June 26th. This year the event will be held on a Sunday due to multiple requests to hold the event on a different evening then our neighboring towns. The festivities will include a fun-filled day of food, music and live entertainment, which will begin at 12 noon and continue right up to launch time, around 9:15 p.m.

East Haven Assistant Director of Administration & Management Michelle Benivegna shared on the Good Things About East Haven Facebook page an explainer:

"On behalf of the Mayor's Office, I would like to provide some additional information about the date change of the fireworks. The VVA had a scheduling conflict with fireworks company which caused us to reschedule the event. We have heard many people say they wish it was not held the same night as Branford's fireworks. Therefore, since we needed to pick another night anyway, we picked Sunday night. The hope was that keeping it the same weekend would be best and the least impactful for our residents. It is unfortunate the VVA was unable to secure the original date, but we did not want to cancel the event all together. I hope people understand that this decision was made because Saturday was NO LONGER an option. We still will have an amazing display and a fun-filled day."

The rain date, which will be limited entertainment and the fireworks, will be Monday June 27, 2022.

There will be musical performances which will begin at noon, and WPLR-FM 99.1 will be on the town beach adding to the entertainment.

There will be food vendors and concessionaires in the immediate area.

As a reminder, street access to the beach will be limited beginning at 9 am. Cosey Beach Avenue will be closed from the intersection of Second Avenue to Philips Street. Similarly, Coe Avenue will be closed from the Bradford Street intersection to the beach. The East Haven Police Department will be posting notices and directing motorists in and around the general vicinity of the town beach.

Although the fireworks are presented in a cooperative effort with the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 484 and the Town of East Haven, the majority of funding is obtained from private businesses and personal donations. Those who would like to contribute, donations may be mailed to VVA Fireworks 2022 c/o Mayor’s Office, 250 Main Street, East Haven, CT 06512.
