Everybody knows that the cheapest place to buy gas in the area is at the Forbes Fuel station just over the East Haven line, on Forbes Avenue in New Haven.

No matter what time of time you go to fill up your car, you can pretty much count on waiting in line as penny-counting fellow drivers are always lined up waiting their turn.

Gas prices at Forbes tend to run anywhere from a nickel to 15 cents less than most other gas stations.

Well, good news for those waiting in line. There will be another nearby option, soon, for the same price – and it will be in East Haven.

The Economic Development Commission recently approved plans to construct a new Forbes Fuel gas station/convenience store just off Interstate 95 on Frontage Road in East Haven, in the grassy space between Wendy’s and the entrance to the Home Depot.

The state offered the land to the town, and Economic Development Coordinator Sal Brancati worked out the deal with Forbes to open the new gas station.

Brancati reported the news to the Economic Development Commission.

Brancati said it will be a 12-pump service station, with a convenience store.

He added that the nearby lot at 198 Commerce Street has also been sold to Forbes, which he said will be used for car and truck repair work.

An additional 10,000 square feet of space will be added by Forbes to the 198 Commerce Street site, said Brancati.
