EAST HAVEN, CT — Seven East Haven police officers traveled to New York City Wednesday for the funeral of slain NYPD officer Wilbert Mora as a sign of solidarity for a "brother in blue." A sea of many thousands of police officers from across the region, and the country, gathered on Fifth Avenue to pay their respects during the 27-year-old police officers' funeral at St. Patrick's Cathedral.

In a New York TV news clip where reporters spoke to a handful of mourners, they briefly interviewed one police officer from out-of-town: East Haven Police Department Capt. Joseph M. Murgo.

"When an officer is killed in the line of duty, it's a brother in blue," he told a WPIX reporter. "And it affects every single one of us."

Jason Rivera, 22, whose funeral was held last Friday, and Wilbert Mora, 27, both died responding to a domestic incident late last month.

Last week, Rivera's funeral also at St. Patrick's Cathedral, began with a rendition of "Amazing Grace."

Police officers from across the region, and the nation, lined Fifth Avenue to pay their respects.
