In a post to Facebook, her son, East Haven Police Capt. Joseph M. Murgo wrote:

Life is short and you always think you’ll have more time. Another visit, another phone call. Then all of a sudden you don’t.
My mom died on February 12th 2023, after enduring 10 years of suffering. It’s ironic that on Valentines Day 2013 I got a phone call from my father telling me my mom fell in the kitchen. Our lives were never the same after that. After a series of tests, it was found that my mom had NPH (Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus) a neurological condition affecting the fluids of the brain. It would destroy her motor functions and life as she previously knew it would be over. You would think a diagnosis of this magnitude would crush her spirits but it never did. After an invasive brain surgery she would live on to be the best Gammie to two granddaughters who she loved immensely.
My mom taught me a lot about life. She taught me to be to be good to people no matter the circumstances. She taught me to be fair, to be strong and to always remember that everyone, no matter who they are has good in them although it might take some searching to find it sometimes. She taught me the value of good character, to acknowledge everyone in the room and of the importance of working hard and playing harder.
I owe a lot to my mother and father. Although I don’t remember it, being adopted at nine months old from the Dominican Republic saved my life. They gave me an opportunity and a life others can only dream of. I think sometimes about how life could have turned out for me and then again of how it did. Growing up, my house was the hub of all neighborhood activities, sleepovers, family dinners and my friends were always invited on vacations with us. I had a wonderful childhood. Hard to even put into words.
Thank you mom for everything you have done for me. I will truly miss you but am thankful for all the memories we have made and you have given us over the years. Thank you for loving me, Jaime, Kaia and Kylie.
Until we meet again.
