Obituary: Gary Peters, 52, formerly of East Haven

Gary Peters, 52 of West Haven, formerly of East Haven died peacefully at Yale New Haven Hospital on July 19, 2023. Gary was born on September 29, 1970, to the late Fredrick Sr. and Gloria Peters. Gary was a graduate of East Haven High School class of 1988 and was well known throughout town and the community ever since.

Gary worked for the West Haven Board of Education for many years as a custodian, but he spent most of his time devoted to the Boy Scouts of America Troop 401 from East Haven. He enjoyed the summer trips to Maine with the Boy Scouts and served as an Assistant Scout Master. He became an Eagle Scout in 1988 and was very proud of that accomplishment. He was involved with the Annex Little League and loved to play High School and Midget Football. In his younger days was a Volunteer Firefighter with his brother Fred with East Haven Fire Dept Volunteer Company 1. He loved Trips to Mohegan Sun, and he was an “Honorary Teammate” at Mission Barbeque in Orange.

Gary is survived by his loving daughter Samantha of West Haven, siblings Sherry Brooks, Randy Brooks, and Fred (Beth) Peters; many loving nieces, nephews, Aunts and Uncles; his special friends Alec, Sandy and Johnny, and his dogs Bailey and Dallas. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Patricia Peters sisters Heather Fuller, Ann Peters, Bobbie Sue Stewart, his brother Ronald Brooks, his Uncle “Brother” and his beloved Dog Midnight.

Gary’s family will receive friends on TUESDAY July 25th, 2023 from 4:00 -7:00 PM at East Haven Memorial Funeral Home 425 Main ST East Haven CT 06512. A Prayer Service for Gary will be held WEDNESDAY July 26th, 2023 at the funeral home at 10:00 AM, a procession will escort him to Oak Grove Cemetery immediately after for interment. Friends are asked to arrive at the funeral home prior to 9:45 AM on Wednesday.
