Obituary: Hershel Clarence Norman, 84, of East Haven
A draftsman who always worked two jobs to support his beloved family, he was a great listener, enjoyed working on cars, and loved his pets.
Hershel Clarence Norman of East Haven died Wednesday September 13, 2023 at his home. He was the beloved husband of Betsey Ann Condon Norman for over 68 years.
Hershel was born in Michigan on December 11, 1938, son of the late Hershel W. and Bessie Elliott Norman. He worked as a draftsman for Armstrong Rubber and for the New Haven Register for over 30 years. He always worked two jobs to support his family, was a great listener, and loved his family. In his pastime he enjoyed fishing. He was a master of working on cars and remodeling the house on his own. He had a love for his pets, and leaves behind his cat Pumpkin who he loved to play with and torment. He was known to sneak food to his dogs (Bentley, Sage & Levi) and he truly enjoyed their company. You would find him watching an old western movie or at the casino.

Besides Betsey Ann he is survived by his children, Suzanne (Edward) Marquis, Steven (Cheryl) Norman, Pam Norman, Sandi Childress (the late Leroy Allen, Michael), Sharon Dowdell (the late Kelly Dowdell, Chad) and Wendy (Glenn) Meeker, 19 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and his brother Fred (Terry) Norman. He was predeceased by his brothers, Henry (Pat) Norman, Elliott (Gerry) Norman and his sister Rochelle (Don) Bouffard.
Relatives and friends may attend visiting hours Tuesday September 19, 2023 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford.
