Obituary: Joan C. Janicki Batza, 74, of East Haven
Joan was not only a member of Vertical Church in West Haven, but she was the head of the hostesses for twelve years.

Joan C. Janicki Batza of East Haven, died Wednesday December 13, 2017 at her home in East Haven surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of Lawrence J. Batza. Joan was born in New Haven April 3, 1943, first daughter of the late Thaddeus and Charlotte Marvin Janicki. She worked as an administrative assistant for the Yale University School of Medicine for 18 years, working for the chief of cardio-thoracic surgery.
Joan also worked for Geselle Institute in New Haven for many years as a secretary to the founders and helped them produce their manuscripts and books on child development. She was an avid reader and loved animals especially cats and horses. Later in life she grew a real interest in birds. She was an excellent cook. Joan had a big heart for Native Americans and supported them.

Most important and close to her heart was her granddaughter, Saige which was a real joy to her. Joan was not only a member of Vertical Church in West Haven, but she was the head of the hostesses for twelve years and she was also a pre-marriage counselor alongside her husband for thirty-five years. She will be dearly missed in the family because she was all about family.
Besides her husband, Joan is survived by her sons, L. Keith Batza of Yonkers, NY, and David L. (Laurie) Batza of North Branford; her granddaughter Saige L. Batza and her sister Nancy A. Janicki. Friends are invited to a visitation Sunday afternoon from 3:00 - 6:00 PM at the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford, and are invited to a funeral service Monday morning at 10:00 in Vertical Church, West Haven. Visitors may arrive at 9:00.
