
Joseph Edward “Joe” Izzo, 83, retired inspector of the Chief State’s Attorney’s Office, passed away with his loving wife by his side on Friday, August 15, 2025, at his home in Bluffton, SC. He was born in New Haven on May 11, 1942 son of the late Anthony A. and Margaret T. Parker Izzo. He grew up in East Haven and graduated from East Haven High School. He joined the East Haven Police Department in 1964 where he began as a patrolman working his way up through the ranks over the next 20 years. He received many honors and awards including the Medal of Merit. He retired in 1984 as a Lieutenant. He was one of the charter members of the EHPD Union which became Local 1662. After his retirement from EHPD, he continued his career as an Inspector for the Chief State’s Attorney’s Office for another 23 years and retired in 1997. After his retirement, he and his wife moved to South Carolina where his love of police work carried on as a volunteer with Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Cold Case Unit for another 14 years. Joe was a cops cop and a friend to all that knew him. Joe was an avid golfer; he loved boating and fishing and was a die-hard Red Sox fan. Most of all, Joe loved his family more than anything. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 62 years, Carol Ann (Pickett) Izzo; his daughter, Kristin Piscitelli; son-in-law, (Joe) Giuseppe Piscitelli Jr. of Branford; son, (Jay) Joseph Izzo Jr. of Guilford; and daughter, Carolyn Juliano; son-in-law, Dr. Jude Clancy of Guilford; and leaves his brother, Patrick Izzo of East Haven. Grandfather of Ryan Juliano, Alyssa Champigny, Giuliana Piscitelli, Gabriella Ferraiolo, Jake Ferraiolo, Gracie-Rose Piscitelli, Giuseppe Piscitelli III, Evelyn Juliano and Cole Juliano. Great-grandfather of Parker Madden Ferraiolo. Joe is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Eileen Frederick, and his brother, Neil Izzo.
Family and friends are invited to A Mass of Christian Burial at St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish in St. Vincent de Paul Church MONDAY, September 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
