Obituary: ​Louis J. DeAngelo Sr. 86, of East Haven

Lou was a master carpenter for Yale University prior to his retirement. He also worked for the Edward Malley's Company for 25 years.

Louis J. DeAngelo Sr. 86, of East Haven beloved husband of the late Jennie Fanello DeAngelo passed away on December 17, 2017 in CT. Hospice surrounded by his family. Loving father of John (Renee) DeAngelo Sr. of Branford and Louis J. DeAngelo Jr. of East Haven. Grandfather of John (Jackie) DeAngelo Jr. of Branford, Louis DeAngelo of North Branford and David DeAngelo also of Branford. Great grandfather of Julianna Marie DeAngelo.

Brother of Theresa (Leo) Marino of Branford, Rose D'Onofrio of Hamden, Mario DeAngelo of FL and the late Julia Paolillo and Anthony, John, Joseph and Nicholas DeAngelo. Louis was born in New Haven on March 29, 1931 son of the late John and Ann Esposito DeAngelo. Lou was a master carpenter for Yale University prior to his retirement. He also worked for the Edward Malley's Company for 25 years as a carpenter and manager of facilities.

He was also referred to as the man with “hands of gold” for his ability to take a rough sawn piece of wood and create the highest quality of cabinetry and furniture. Lou was an avid UCONN Women's Basketball fan. He honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. The family would like to especially thank Dr. David Eilbott of Branford Internal Medicine for his friendship and the exceptional medical care and guidance given to both Jennie and Lou for several decades.

To the staff and patients of Avantus Shoreline Dialysis, thank you for treating Lou as though he was a family member and always making him feel welcomed with your morning smiles. Thank you to the staff of CT. Hospice for their compassion, attentiveness and professional knowledge in enhancing the quality of life for Lou during his final days.

His funeral procession will leave the PORTO FUNERAL HOME 234 Foxon Rd. (Rte. 80) East Haven TUESDAY morning at 10:30 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Our Lady of Pompeii Church at 11:00 A.M. Interment with military honors will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Friends may call TUESDAY morning from 8:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ct. Hospice 100 Double Beach Rd. Branford,CT. 06405.
