Mark Caponera, 63, of East Haven, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Monday, December 24, 2018 at Hospice of Branford. He was born in New Haven on December 20, 1955 to the late Savino and Gloria Albano Caponera.

He was the cherished husband, friend, and business partner of Donna McCormack Caponera for 48 years. He also leaves behind a nephew, Richard M. (Erica) Caponera Jr. of East Haven, a niece Michelle (David) Benivegna of East Haven, two sister-in-laws, Sandy Capnera of East Haven, Linda (Ed) Jaconette of Vero Beach, FL and a brother-in-law Sean McCormack. He also leaves two great nephews, Richard M. Caponera, III and Chase Benivegna. He was extremely proud to be their Uncle. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Andrew and Mary Albano, his paternal grandparents, Michael and Mary Caponera and his brother Richard M. Caponera Sr.

Mark was the owner and operator of Capco Paving and Excavating, LLC for 25 years and the owner, designer, and partner at the Cub House Day Care for 20 years. He also worked for the Town of East Haven for 8 years as the Superintendent of Operations. During that time Mark served on many boards and committees in various capacities. He was a member of the East Haven Fall Festival Executive Committee for 19 years as the set up coordinator.

During those years he implemented a sanitary sewer on the green for all vendors to have hot and cold water. He served on the East Lawn Cemetery Board for 30 years, the last 10 as President. He was also a member of the East Haven Chamber of Commerce for 10 years. In addition to his time with family, Mark always enjoyed time at the casino and playing his guitar.

Funeral will leave the East Haven Memorial Longoobardi – Brennan Funeral Home, 425 Main St., East Haven, 203-467-1708 Saturday morning at 11:30 for a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish at St. Vincent dePaul Church at 12 noon. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call Friday evening from 4 to 7 pm. Memorial Contributions can be made to the East Haven Animal Shelter, 183 Commerce Street, East Haven, CT 06512.
