Obituary: Pauline Fogarty Kershaw, 97, of East Haven

A woman of great faith and her family's "true matriarch," she was a decades-long West Haven teacher and in the 1940s, she was a nurse.

Pauline Fogarty Kershaw, of East Haven, passed away on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at Connecticut Hospice with her daughter by her side. She was the wife of the late William H. Kershaw. She was born in West Haven on January 25, 1924 to the late Andrew and Nora O’Reilly Fogarty.

She worked for the West Haven School System as a teacher in the Anna V. Molloy School for 22 years until retiring in 1989. She was an active member of the West Haven Federation of Teachers, Local 1547, she was also a volunteer for the Thompson School in West Haven from 1989 to 1999 and even worked at St. Francis School of Nursing in Hartford as a Registered Nurse in the mid 1940’s.

Pauline was a woman of great faith and the true matriarch of her family.

She is survived by a daughter with whom she resided, Paula Burhans (James Cifarelli) of East Haven, two sons, John (Carmen) Kershaw of Lompoc, CA and William Kershaw of Middletown, CT, as well as three grandchildren, John (Marian) Kershaw, William Kershaw, IV and Nora (Luke) Doubleday. Besides her parents, she was pre-deceased by a sister, Maureen Boyle.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
