Obituary: Richard Bruce, 74 of New Haven

An Army veteran, he was the last surviving Native American Indian of his immediate family, dating back to the Hopi and Winnebago Tribes.

Richard Bruce, 74, of New Haven passed away July 24, 2023 at Yale New Haven Hospital. He was born March 10, 1949 in New Haven to John and Lucille (Smith) Bruce. Richard is survived by his three loving children, Chris Bruce (widower of Antoinette Venditti) of East Haven, Kasey Bruce of East Haven and Richie Bruce (companion, Dana Calder) of East Haven along with his five grandchildren he adored, Cheyenne Riccio, Josh Bruce, Shaun Bruce, Ivy Bruce and Skylor Bruce. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, former wife, Kathleen (Rosa) Bruce and five siblings, Katherine Burke, Ramona Bruce, Phyllis Bruce, Ronald Bruce and John Bruce. Richard is the last surviving Native American Indian of his immediate family, dating back to the Hopi and Winnebago Tribes.

Richard graduated from Lee High School in New Haven and was drafted into the US Army were he proudly served his country. He loved spending time with his family, friends and swimming at Lighthouse Park. He later retired from City Printing in North Haven with over 25 years of service.

Family will receive friends on Sunday, July 30, 2023 from 2 P.M. until the time of service at 4 P.M. in the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home (Clancy Funeral Home), 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. Burial will be private.
