Obituary: Robert Charles Ruby, 94, of East Haven

A WWII Army veteran, he owned Putnam Upholstery Shop​, played golf until age 90 and is known for "his Facebook posts and creative writing."

Robert Charles Ruby, 94, of East Haven, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 19, 2021. Bob, the beloved husband of Eleanor Silvestro Ruby for 69 years, was born in New Haven on August 5, 1926. He was the son of the late Charles and Mary (Servilla) Ruby. Father of Elissa (Joseph) D’Onofrio of Frisco, Texas, and Roberta (Eric) Campbell, of East Haven. Grandfather of Morgan Campbell, Paige (Matthew) Salatto-Pizzorusso, and Robert D’Onofrio. Great-grandfather of Stella Rose and Lilianna Grace Salatto-Pizzorusso. He was predeceased by his sisters Florence Falcigno and Josephine Manuguerra.

He served his country faithfully in the Army during World War II. Prior to his retirement in 2001, he owned Putnam Upholstery Shop. He was admired for his skillful and gifted craftsmanship. Bob, a passionate golfer, played until the age of 90. He was an avid reader, enjoyed drawing, coloring, woodworking, and his infamous Diamond Dotz. He will also be remembered for his Facebook posts and creative writing. More importantly he will be remembered for his love of family and friends.
