Obituary: Susan A. Zampa, of East Haven

She was raised in East Haven and attended East Haven High School.

Susan A. Zampa passed away January 20, 2019, after a long battle with cancer. She was 60 years old. Susan was born in New Haven September 25, 1958 and raised in East Haven, and attended East Haven High School. She later lived in Monmouth and Ocean counties, NJ.

She worked for many years as a retail manager, most recently for PetSmart. She had a deep love for animals, particularly dogs, and was passionate about gardening, photography, cooking, and music. Susan was engaged, conscientious, and free-spirited - she contributed beauty and kindness to the world, rejected injustices, and embraced life in its totality. She encouraged her stepchildren and grandchildren to dream, learn, create, excel, and find happiness.

Her gentle soul was appreciated by family, friends, colleagues, and neighbors. Susan was predeceased by her mother, Patricia Young Zampa and her partner of 28 years, Patricia A. Amisson. She is survived by her father, William J. Zampa of East Haven, stepchildren, Marie Amisson, Elizabeth Amisson-Schall and her husband Jesse, Joseph Amisson and his wife April, and Catherine Scott and her husband Tyler; her grandchildren, Kaden, Joseph, Michael, Justin, Joan, Ella, and Milo; her brother, B.J. Zampa; her sister, Karen Zampa-Katz and her husband Robert; her niece, Katie Rose Leon; and her cousins, Howard McCann and Renee Rice and her husband Rick.

The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff affiliated with Memorial Sloane Kettering Cancer Center in NY, Monmouth Medical Center, the VNA of Central Jersey Hospice, and Complete Care at Bey Lea for their dedicated and compassionate care throughout Susan’s illness. An additional memorial gathering will be held in New Jersey at a future date and time.

Friends may call at that PORTO FUNERAL HOME, 234 Foxon Rd. (Rte 80), East Haven THURSDAY from 5:00-8:00 pm with a Service at 7:00 PM. Interment will be private.
