Police Find Skimming Device On Foxon Road Gas Station Pump

Police said they found a skimming device installed inside the credit card machine on a pump at the Foxon Road Citgo gas station.

EAST HAVEN, CT — Police are warning people about the skimming card device scam after finding it on the number eight pump at the Citgo gas station at 957 Foxon Road.

Police said it "appears as though a device was installed inside the credit card machine."

In a Facebook scam alert post, police said, "Please be mindful of credit card machines that look like they have been tampered with. Most have security tape at points of entry. If the tape’s seal is broken, chances are someone has accessed that machine."

Skimming devices are used to steal credit card information. When a person swipes a credit or debit card, the device grabs and stores the data inside the card's magnetic stripe.

Police said anyone who has "fraudulent charges after gassing up at Citgo," should call 203-468-3820.
