Police Release Video of Pursuit Prior to Fatal Crash: East Haven Police

Police say the vehicle was stolen and officers quickly terminated pursuit before the fatal accident occurred in Branford.

EAST HAVEN, CT — Police released in-car dash camera footage of the stolen vehicle pursuit that took place on Sunday in which an officer attempted to pull a vehicle over for motor vehicle violations.

It was later determined that the vehicle was stolen out of New Haven, police said. During the pursuit, the officer was advised by both supervisors to terminate, at which point all emergency lights and sirens were de-activated, police said.

Soon after the officer exited the highway at exit 55, (Branford, Connecticut) to return to East Haven, he came upon the accident scene which involved the fleeing vehicle, police said. Tragically, the stolen car crashed just off of the highway in Branford, and a 4-year-old Hamden child was killed. Two arrests have been made.

Police say Tyler O. Carey, 18, of East Haven, was behind the wheel of the stolen car when he crashed in Branford, which led to the death of 4-year-old Jarius Benjamin.
