Man, 74, Killed In Vehicle Vs. Pedestrian Crash, PD Investigating

East Haven police and the South Central Connecticut Traffic Unit is investigating the crash that claimed the life of an elderly man.

EAST HAVEN, CT — A 74-year-old man was killed in a vehicle versus pedestrian crash on North High Street early Wednesday night, police said.

His identity is being withheld pending notification to next of kin, police said.

The driver stayed on the scene, was not injured, and is “fully cooperating” with the investigation and has not been charged with any violations, police said.

East Haven police are on the scene of a "serious injury motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian in the 600 block of North High Street," East Haven Police Capt. Joseph M Murgo said.

Police are asking motorists to avoid the area of North High Street between Grannis Street and Gloria Place while the South Central Connecticut Traffic Unit Regional Accident Reconstruction Team conducts their investigation, Murgo said. Drivers may use Laurel Street as an alternate route.

"We have also asked CSP Troop G to shut down the I-95S Exit 52 off ramp," Murgo said, adding that the conditions of those involved is "unknown at the moment."

"As more information becomes available, updates will be provided," he said.
