Alfonso Lieto, 78, passed away on May 15. Born in Minore, Italy, he immigrated to the U.S. in 1958. A craftsman auto upholster for over 60 years, he loved working on cars, even up until the day he fell ill. A kind man, he loved all animals and could be seen walking around with his cat, Spoceam and feeding the birds, and every other animal. He enjoyed playing the horses and spending time at Sports Haven with all his friends there.

Violet “Vidy” Scobie, 100, passed away May 17. Violet moved to East Haven in 1938 and graduated from East Haven High School. She was President of the Chamber of Commerce, served actively at the Old Stone Church, and founded its Thrift Shop. She was also on the Board of the East Haven Municipal Employees Credit Union and a member of the East Haven Historical Society and Shoreline Community Garden Club.

Joseph S. “Joe” Cariello, 76, passed away May 9. Before his passing, Joe was the executive director of the Beth-El Center, dedicating 30 years to social services, fundraising, and supporting the homeless and needy. Well known in town, he enjoyed coffee and conversation with friends and cheering for New York sports teams.
