Robert George L’Heureux obituary: Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home, East Haven

Robert George L’Heureux, 92, of New Haven, CT, passed away on June 4, 2026, at The Connecticut Hospice in Branford, surrounded by clergy and loving friends.

He was born on January 23, 1934, in New Haven, the son of George and Elizabeth Murphy L’Heureux. Bob graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1953 and joined the Army Air Corps, where he learned how to fly.

Bob met Margo Brooks on Great Harbour Cay and married her on September 6, 1969, at Fort Hamilton Army Base in Brooklyn, NY. He was a private pilot all his career, and flew helicopters and large and small planes, including spraying vegetable farms in the Midwest and transporting tourists in the Bahamas and Florida. After he retired to New Haven, Bob painted his long driveway as if it were a runway, with the directional number 22 and a windsock at the far end. At the renewal of his and Margo’s marriage vows in 2018, a neighbor toasted Bob as “A man of many talents — helicopter pilot, airplane pilot, greenskeeper with a large and beautiful lawn. Bob’s greetings to neighbors young and old, canine and human, knit our neighborhood together. I can’t remember whether L’Heureux means happy or smiling or laughing, but they all apply to Bob.”

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Joanne and brother John, and his sons Bobby and Michael. He is survived by his wife Margo, sister-in-law Karen L’Heureux, two nieces and a nephew, and three great-nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 20, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 129 Edwards Street, New Haven. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton, MD, in a private ceremony under the care of the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home, East Haven CT.
