Robert Vedder obituary: Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home, East Haven

Robert Vedder, 73 of East Haven passed away March 9, 2026 at Yale New Haven Hospital. He was born October 26, 1952 in New Haven to the late Franklin and Audrey (Hagen) Vedder. Robert is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Margaret “Pegi” (McKay) Vedder and two devoted daughters; Jaime Giacalone (Jae) of East Haven and Samantha Vedder (Tim Emini) of East Haven along three grandchildren he adored; Gabryella Vedder, Savannah Dyer and Sophia Emini.

Robert graduated from Eli Whitney Technical High School in Hamden where he was an avid cross-country track runner. After graduating he served as a Sergeant in the Marines for 6 years where he received the Organized Marine Corps Reserve Medal (1st award) and the Rifle Expert Badge (4th award). He was a volunteer firefighter at Bradford Manor in East Haven. He was co-owner of Nutiles Ambulance Company and a paramedic in the town of East Haven. He retired from Pratt & Whitney after 30 years where he was a Machining Manager. In his retirement he enjoyed spending time with his granddaughters and dogs that he adored. He was often seen sitting outside on his porch feeding the birds and squirrels, which brought him joy. He was a simple man and enjoyed having a simple life. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

At the request of Robert, a private funeral service with USMC Military Honors will be held at the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven CT.
