Obituary ~ Rupert Chinatamani of East Haven

Rupert C. Chinatamani, 66, of East Haven, CT, passed away peacefully at home on April 18, 2025. Rupert is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Tammy (Persaud) Chinatamani, and their devoted daughter, Sharlene (Chinatamani) Spofford of Clinton, CT, along with two grandchildren he adored: Liam Spofford and Caleb Spofford. Rupert is also survived by his siblings: Shirley Budhan; Lynett Chinatamani; Noreen Ramoo, Sookram Ramoo (brother in law); Dickey (Chandradat) Chinatamani, Indira Chinatamani (sister in law); as well as, Sharmila Budhan, Celina Ramoo, Charisse Chinatamani (nieces); Ravi Budhan, Navin Singh, Shane Chinatamani (nephews); Navita Singh (great niece), Shawn Singh (great nephew), and many more cousins, nieces, and nephews.


He is preceded in death by his parents, the late Alfred and Datsy (Bisessar) Chinatamani, and brothers, Rudy Chinatamani and Roy Chinatamani.


Rupert C. Chinatamani was born to Alfred and Datsy Chinatamani on March 15, 1959 in Guyana. He came to America in 1981 after marrying Tammy (Ivo) Chinatamani. They moved a few times, and eventually made a home in East Haven, CT. Rupert and Tammy welcomed their beautiful daughter Sharlene in 1986. They loved to go for walks at the Branford Green and the cafe for coffee. They always went on vacation every year. Their favorite places to visit were Newport and Cape May; getting the best clam chowder was a must every summer. Rupert loved to watch all sports but especially soccer and cricket. He was a true New York Yankees and Giants fan, and enjoyed watching it with his daughter. Rupert loved to talk to people and help any way he could. He loved to go to every sports game and school functions for his grandkids. He always made time for his family no matter what was going on. He was a caring brother and brother in law, always the first to lend a hand. He will be greatly missed by many.

Family will receive friends from 4 to 7 PM on Thursday April 24, 2025 in the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home (Clancy Funeral Home), 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. A funeral service will be held for Rupert on Friday, April 25 at 11:30 AM in Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home followed by a private burial at St. Agnes Cemetery. Located at 295 East Main Street Branford, CT.
