Scoring Points With Kids: East Haven Cop Is Making A Difference

Filling in for an East Haven High School SRO, officer Jayquan Wilkins engaged with students in the hallways and on the basketball court.

EAST HAVEN, CT — East Haven Police Department officer Jayquan Wilkins has been on the beat for 14 months. Last week, he filled in for East Haven High School's resource officer Nicole Burrell. While there, he took the opportunity to engage with students, in the hallways and on the court.

"We are always proud to see our officers engaging with students," police Capt. Joseph M. Murgo told Patch shortly after posting this video to social media.

"Breaking down barriers and showing the younger generation that our officers are just like them might even inspire a few to join a police department and make a difference," Murgo said. "Like officer Wilkins has."

In the video, Wilkins can be seen scoring some points with kids, as he shoots hoops and shares some skills.

"Fostering positive relationships is what this job is all about," Murgo said.
