St Pio Of Pietrelcina Parish Catechism Students 'Help The Homeless'
The 4th, 5th and 6th graders in St Pio of Pietrelcina Parish' religious instruction classes held a parish and community-wide sock drive.

EAST HAVEN, CT — The grade school kids in Saint Pio of Pietrelcina Parish catechism class find meaning in hands-on learning by giving. And the best way to do that are hands-on projects. This project was all about helping homeless people.
"The children from religious education are always eager to help those in their community," said coordinator Carol Silva.

"The students accomplished all of this by their own hard work," she said. The fourth, fifth and sixth-graders created their own signs and "decorative collection boxes to be placed in each church throughout the parish."
Soon, donations boxes began filling up.

"The socks started to flow in, donated by parishioners in our community," Silva said.
Students in the catechism classes then separated socks by size at last Tuesday night's class.
"They’re always thinking of amazing ways to help their community," classroom teacher Tina Hedley said.
