St. Vincent fell to last year’s playoff rival St. Rita ‘s White Team 7-4 on May 5 in a well-played defensive game. Offensive contributions from Angela Ranciato and Alexis Esposito laid the groundwork for a comeback in the bottom of the fifth – which also included walks from Briana Carrano and Erin McCann and a 2-run double by Laura Anderson – but the difference was just too much to make up before time expired.
On May 9, St. Vincent roared back to a 10-4 victory over St. Stephen’s led by Laura Anderson’s 14-strikeout masterpiece and four putouts by catcher Erin McCann. Both McCann and Anderson also helped the cause by going 1 for 3 at the plate with two runs scored. Captain Angela Ranciato continued her strong offensive performance with a leadoff triple in 3rd inning and scoring three times in the game.

One more victory will ensure that St. Vincent de Paul will return to the Greater New Haven Parochial Athletic League playoffs and compete for the league championship.
“The monkey is off our back now, a team scored against us and we’ve lost one game,” said coach Dan McCann. “It’s not the end of the season, we have a lot of softball left and we’ll just take one game at a time.”
