EAST HAVEN — The town needs you, East Haven. Volunteers are needed to help staff the town's vaccine centers. The non-medical tasks range from doing data entry and helping with foot traffic.

In a message to the community, Mayor Joseph A. Carfora also said that people with certain medical experience may be trained to administer vaccine, if they meet state health department requirements. Veterinarians, EMTs, paramedics, nurses, physicians, podiatrists, dentists and dental hygienists may all qualify, he said.

“This will be an ongoing event, possibly weekly and exceeds what can be done with our available resources," Carfora said. "In times of crisis, the people of East Haven always come together to help their neighbors, knowing this we are asking for your help.”

The Emergency Management Director Fire Department Chief Matt Marcarelli said that volunteers would be sworn in as members of the Medical Reserve Corps and will be indemnified for their work at the vaccine center.
