Tiny Hands with Big Hearts at Overbrook

Overbrook first graders breathe new life into trash with art.

In honor of last week’s observance of Earth Day, the first-grade classes at Overbrook Elementary School Tuesday took on the task of cleaning the school grounds.

Tiny hands and big hearts got outside and took advantage of the beautiful weather yesterday, as first-grade teachers, Mrs. Manna and Mrs. Peterson, along with the Principal Schmidt, supervised the cleanup.

There is a plan in place to create a sculpture with all the gathered materials of the school’s mascot, a frog named Lilly.

Lilly's anatomy will consist of a shopping cart, old tires and various kinds of debris that the kids cleaned up. Cash from the redeemed bottles and cans will further fund the project.
