Victim In Fatal Vehicle Vs. Pedestrian Crash ID'd As New Haven Man
The 74-year-old man parked his car on North High St. and was struck while crossing the street. The driver, who called 911, was not charged.

EAST HAVEN, CT — The victim in Wednesday’s fatal pedestrian struck accident has been identified as 74-year-old Nicholas Marino of Hillside Avenue, in New Haven.
It was around 6:3 p.m. when the East Haven Public Safety Dispatcher Center received a 911 call from a motorist who said he'd "hit a pedestrian" in the 600 block of North High Street, East Haven Police Department Capt. Joseph M. Murgo said.
When police arrived, they found the "unconscious male" later identified as Marino in a private driveway. Officers immediately began life-saving measures until East Haven Fire Department personnel arrived and took over, Murgo said.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Marino parked his vehicle along the north bound lane shoulder of North High Street and crossed the street, crossing over the southbound lane where he was struck by a vehicle traveling southbound in the southbound lane, Murgo said.
Marino was pronounced deceased on scene, he said.

The driver was not injured, stayed on the scene, and fully cooperated with the investigation, Murgo said.
North High Street remained closed for several hours while the South-Central Connecticut Traffic Unit investigated the collision. The driver has not been charged.
