Woman Stole Cancer Donation Jar From Business: East Haven Police

Police say the community helped with solving the case as numerous tips were reported to law enforcement.

EAST HAVEN, CT — Police on Saturday announced an arrest in the case involving the theft of a cancer donation jar at a local business. Police said on Nov. 16 the cancer donation jar was stolen from East Haven Discount Wine and Liquors.

"Immediately after releasing the surveillance video and still photos of the theft to the media, tips came pouring in from the community," Police Lt. Joseph M. Murgo. The suspect was determined to be Nicole Bova, 37, of Oakley Street, New Haven, police said.

Once contact was made with Bova, she admitted to her involvement in the theft and cooperated fully with the rest of the investigation, police said. After an arrest warrant was issued, Bova turned herself into police headquarters, police said.

Bova was charged with sixth-degree larceny and released on a $500 bond.

"This theft occurred during the time of year where people tend to feel the most generous. We do not want this incident to discourage people from donating to important causes like this in the future. We want to thank the community for their help in identifying the person responsible for this theft," Murgo said.
