A number of Ellington and Somers college students have earned great honors during a very trying academic semester.

Assumption College, Worcester MA

  • Assumption has announced seven students from Ellington and Somers who have been named to the College's Dean's List for the spring 2020 semester. Students must achieve a grade point average of 3.5 for a five-class, 15-credit semester to be included on the prestigious list, which is announced at the completion of the fall and spring semesters. Local students include
    Tesia Burzynski of Somers, Class of 2020; Caroline Casey of Ellington, Class of 2022; Anna Conley of Somers, Class of 2020; Crystal Dostie of Ellington, Class of 2021; Spencer Marocchini of Somers, Class of 2020; Lauren Masamery of Somers, Class of 2021; and Trevor Wilcox of Somers, Class of 2020.

Bryant University, Smithfield RI

  • Bryant University Provost and Chief Academic Officer Glenn M. Sulmasy, J.D., LL.M., has announced the University's 2020 Commencement Awards, with distinguished recognition bestowed on 41 accomplished members of Bryant's Class of 2020, including McKenzie Kozma of Ellington. Kozma earned the John Hancock Insurance Company Award, presented to graduating seniors who have demonstrated superior achievement in the study of actuarial mathematics.

Bucknell University, Lewisburg PA

  • Bucknell University has released the dean's list for outstanding academic achievement during the spring semester of the 2019-20 academic year, which includes Class of 2020 member Emma Dolen of Ellington. A student must earn a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a scale of 4.0 to receive dean's list recognition.

Central Connecticut State University, New Britain CT

  • Eight Central Connecticut State University students were selected to receive the 2020 President’s Citation Award, including Nicole Marie Hazzard of Ellington, a Nursing major who was awarded the 2019 Student Nightingale Award for Excellence in Nursing and the MacRae Nursing Student Leadership Award. She is a member of the Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society of Nursing and has been a member of the Student Nurses’ Association for four years, serving as its president for the last three. Throughout her CCSU career, she has mentored her fellow student nurses and organized several health-related events. In her hometown of Ellington, she earned the 2015 Lifesaving Award and has served as a volunteer firefighter and EMT in town since 2016. She is also a patient care associate at Hartford Hospital.

Clarkson University, Potsdam NY

  • Karen Agro of Somers, a sophomore majoring in environmental engineering, was named a Presidential Scholar for the spring 2020 semester at Clarkson University. Presidential Scholars must achieve a minimum 3.80 grade-point average and carry at least 14 credit hours.
  • Aiden Kennedy Tiernan of Somers, a senior majoring in mechanical engineering, was named to the Dean's List for the spring 2020 semester at Clarkson University. Dean's List students must achieve a minimum 3.25 grade-point average and also carry at least 14 credit hours.

Nichols College, Dudley MA

  • Erin Anthony, a General Business major from Somers, and Jonathan Conte, a Sports Management major from Ellington, were named to the Dean's List. In order to be included on the Dean's List, a student must have a minimum grade point average of 3.5 for at least 12 undergraduate credit-hours and must have received no grades below B- during the semester.

University of Mississippi, Oxford MS

  • Natalie Jo Sullivan, of Ellington, was recently named to the University of Mississippi's spring 2020 Honor Roll lists. Sullivan was named to the Chancellor's Honor Roll, which is reserved for students who earn a semester GPA of 3.75-4.00.

University of Vermont, Burlington VT

  • Katrina Seeberger, Class of 2022 from Ellington, has been named to the dean's list for the spring 2020 semester at the University of Vermont. Seeberger is in the College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences. To be named to the dean's list, students must have a grade-point average of 3.0 or better and rank in the top 20 percent of their class in their respective college or school.
