Additional Tax Relief Program Introduced In Ellington
Officials in Ellington have announced additional tax relief for certain citizens.

ELLINGTON, CT — Municipal officials in Ellington have announced additional tax relief for certain citizens.
The tax breaks were endorsed at a town meeting on Feb. 12.
The program was developed through the Ellington Board of Selectmen, the Board of Finance and the Ellington Ad Hoc Tax Relief Committee.

The program will take effect March 8, and will be available to Ellington homeowners or surviving
spouses of an Ellington homeowner who are age 65 or older or have a spouse living with him or her who is age 65 or older or receives permanent total disability payments under Social Security.
Applicants must occupy their property in Ellington as their primary residence and must have been a resident and taxpayer of Ellington for at least one year.

Applicants must not exceed the maximum income levels for the state homeowner program, which for the 2024 filing period are $43,800 for an unmarried person, or $53,400 for a married couple. Social Security income is included in the income calculation.
Eligible homeowners between ages 65 and 69 will receive a maximum tax credit of $200 and eligible taxpayers aged 70 or older will receive a maximum tax credit of $500.

Completed applications this year are due by May 15. Because it's the first year of this program, all applicants wishing to participate in this program must complete an application. In future years, applicants will re-file every two years, with the application period starting on February 1st annually, and ending on May 15 annually.
The program is offered to Ellington homeowners in conjunction with other, previously existing tax relief programs. They include the Homeowner’s Program, and the Additional Veterans Exemption Program.
Ellington also offers tax relief programs for honorably discharged veterans who served during a period of war, disabled taxpayers, disabled veterans, taxpayers who are active duty military, blind or disabled taxpayers, and Renter’s rebate program.
By participating in the combined programs, taxpayers can receive tax relief ranging from $350 to more than $2,000.
