ELLINGTON, CT — A car crashed into an apartment building in Ellington on Wednesday afternoon, sending the driver to a local hospital, according to the Ellington Volunteer Fire Department.
Fire officials said crews were sent to Deer Valley Town Homes for a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a car that had gone into a building with the driver still inside.
Automatic mutual aid from the Crystal Lake Fire Department was dispatched, and the chief also requested a heavy rescue from the South Windsor Fire Department after arriving at the scene.
That extra help was later canceled when firefighters determined the driver could be removed without heavy extrication, according to the fire department.
The driver was taken to a local hospital for evaluation of injuries that were not considered life-threatening, officials said.
The people inside the apartment were not hurt, the fire department said.
Crews then remained at the scene to make sure the vehicle could be removed from the apartment safely.
