ELLINGTON, CT — Ellington Public Schools has appointed Dr. Sue Nash as its new superintendent, bringing back a former district principal to lead the school system.

The district announced the appointment this week and said Nash currently serves as superintendent of Killingly Public Schools.

According to Ellington Public Schools, Nash brings more than 25 years of experience in public education, higher education and district leadership. The district said she has served in several leadership roles during her career, including assistant superintendent and principal in multiple Connecticut school districts, and previously worked as a principal in Ellington Public Schools.

The district said Nash is known for work in strategic planning, budget management, instructional leadership and efforts to improve student outcomes. During district leadership roles, she led initiatives focused on equitable grading practices, expanded mental health services, and academic and career pathways for students, according to the announcement. The district also said her leadership philosophy centers on collaboration, continuous improvement, literacy development and supporting the whole child.

"On behalf of the Ellington Board of Education, it is with the utmost gratitude that I welcome back Dr. Sue Nash as our next Superintendent. After a comprehensive search, it was clear that Dr. Nash's experience and dedication to educational excellence, along with her collaborative leadership style and her ability to foster a positive school environment made her the perfect fit for Ellington,” said Board Chair Kerry Socha.

“Ellington is a school district of high academic standards and expectations. Thus, Ellington is eager to have Dr. Nash to lead our district in this next exciting chapter where we look to reach new heights in inspiring our students and empowering our teachers and staff," Socha said.

Nash said returning to the district is deeply personal because of her earlier time working in Ellington schools. “I am incredibly honored and excited to return to Ellington Public Schools as Superintendent,” said Dr. Nash. “Some places stay with you long after you leave them, and Ellington has always been one of those places for me. My time as a principal in Ellington left a lasting impression and deepened my appreciation for the strong sense of community and commitment to students that define the district. Returning now feels less like starting a new chapter and more like picking up a story that has always remained close to my heart.”

The superintendent search was facilitated by consultants from Trumbull-based Cooperative Educational Services, or C.E.S. According to the district, the consultants guided the search committee by developing a leadership profile from stakeholder feedback and facilitating candidate interviews. The district said the process used an interview technique designed to assess candidates' supervisory skills, qualities and attributes against that profile.
