SOMERS, CT — The death of an incarcerated man at Osborn Correctional Institution is under investigation, according to the Connecticut Department of Correction.
Daniel Serrano, 62, of Bridgeport, died Thursday after a medical emergency at the Somers prison, DOC officials said.
A medical emergency code was called at about 8:13 a.m. May 21 after Serrano was found in respiratory distress, according to DOC. He was housed in the Osborn Correctional Institution infirmary at the time.
DOC officials said staff immediately began emergency and life-saving measures.
Paramedics from a local ambulance company responded and took Serrano to a nearby hospital. He was pronounced dead at the hospital at 9:16 a.m., officials said.
Serrano most recently entered the DOC system on July 3, 2025, and was serving a two-year sentence, according to the department.
Connecticut State Police and the Office of the Inspector General are investigating the death. The exact cause of death will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, DOC officials said.
