ELLINGTON, CT — A longtime member of Ellington’s Recreation Department has been promoted to lead the department, town officials announced.
First Selectman Laurie Burstein and Town Administrator Matthew Reed announced that Mary Bartley has been promoted to director of recreation for the Town of Ellington.
Bartley has worked with Ellington’s Recreation Department since 1992, bringing more than three decades of experience to the role, according to the town.
During her time with the department, Bartley has served as recreation coordinator, recreation supervisor, waterfront director and assistant director. She holds a Bachelor of Science in physical education and a Master of Science in health education.
“I’m delighted to have Mary as our Director of Recreation,” Burstein said in a statement. “We are incredibly fortunate as a town to have her extensive experience, passion, and commitment to serving our community.”
Bartley said her goal in the role is to create “inclusive, engaging, and accessible programs” that strengthen community connections and improve residents’ quality of life.
“Recreation is more than activities; it is about building a vibrant community where everyone feels welcome and involved,” Bartley said.
Reed said Bartley’s promotion will benefit the town.
“We are so proud of all the opportunities and experiences our Recreation Department provides for the community,” Reed said. “Mary’s promotion into this role will benefit all of Ellington.”
