ELLINGTON, CT — Republican Board of Education member Michael Young has submitted his resignation from the board, effective July 4, according to the Ellington Republican Town Committee.
The committee announced the resignation in a June 6 social media post, thanking Young for his years of service to Ellington schools.
The Ellington Public Schools website currently lists Young as a Republican member of the Board of Education with a term ending in November 2027. The district also lists Young as chair of the board’s Curriculum Committee.
The Republican Town Committee said it is seeking a registered Republican interested in being considered to fill the seat. The term runs through November 2027, according to the committee.
Residents interested in the seat were asked to email the Ellington Republican Town Committee at EllingtonRTC@gmail.com.
According to the town website, vacancies in elected positions may be filled by appointment by the Board of Selectmen. Ellington’s town charter says vacancies are filled for the unexpired portion of the term and, when the departing official was affiliated with a political party, the replacement is to come from the same political party.
