ELLINGTON, CT — Ellington Public Schools has named Jonathan Mitchell as the new principal of Ellington High School, district officials announced Thursday.
Mitchell served as interim principal of Ellington High School during the 2025-26 school year. He previously served as supervisor of The Ellington Collaborative, according to the district.
Before joining Ellington Public Schools, Mitchell held leadership positions at Ludlow High School in Massachusetts, including interim principal and assistant principal. He has more than 14 years of educational experience and has a background in leadership, student advocacy and school improvement, district officials said.
“I am deeply honored to be moving into the permanent principal position,” Mitchell said in a statement. “Having served this past year as the interim principal, I got to see firsthand how truly special the Ellington community is. Moving forward, I am eager to continue fostering an environment of academic excellence and ensuring every student feels welcome at Ellington High School.”
Mitchell received a Bachelor of Science degree from Springfield College and a Master of Science degree from California State University.
Superintendent Dr. Sue Nash said Mitchell has shown “thoughtful leadership” and a strong commitment to students over the past year.
“We are pleased to appoint him as principal and look forward to his continued leadership and service to our students, staff, and families,” Nash said.
The district said the search was facilitated by consultants from Trumbull-based Cooperative Educational Services, which helped guide the search committee through the process.
