22-Year-Old Ellington Man Killed In Crash

State police said the crash happened early Saturday on I-91 south in Hartford.

ELLINGTON, CT — An Ellington man was killed early Saturday in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 91 south in Hartford, according to Connecticut State Police.

The crash was reported at 12:54 a.m. Saturday on I-91 south, south of the on-ramp from Whitehead Highway, state police said.

According to a state police accident summary, a 2003 Lexus ES 300 was traveling south in the left lane of three when a 2018 Honda 125 was traveling the wrong way, heading north in the southbound lanes, also in the left lane.

The two vehicles collided, state police said.

The driver of the Honda, identified by state police as Colby James David Upson, 22, of Ellington, was separated from the vehicle after the crash. He sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to state police.

The Lexus driver reported no pain and refused medical treatment, state police said.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene due to disabling damage.

The crash remains under investigation.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact TFC John Wilson #1060 at john.wilson@ct.gov. State police are also asking anyone who was driving in the area at the time and has dashboard camera footage to contact Wilson.
