The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection says coyotes are common throughout the state and may be found in wooded suburbs, parks and other developed areas. DEEP advises people not to feed coyotes, to keep dogs leashed and to avoid running or turning away if approached by one.

Anyone approached by a coyote should make loud noises, wave their arms and try to scare the animal away, according to DEEP. Coyotes behaving aggressively or abnormally should be reported to local authorities or DEEP.
