SOMERS, CT — Family Bike’s East Longmeadow store is closing, but the bicycle shop’s name and service legacy will continue in Somers next month.
Patrick Lessard, an employee of the family-owned shop, announced plans to open a new, service-focused Family Bike location at 111 Main St. on Aug. 1.
The new shop will offer tune-ups, repairs, custom builds and expert bicycle service, according to the announcement. Lessard, who said he has 17 years of experience, wrote that he is excited to continue the Family Bike legacy in a new location.
The transition is not a straight relocation of the existing store. Family Bike’s closure announcement says the East Longmeadow business is closing and that its next chapter will be carried forward by Lessard.
The existing Family Bike website still lists its location at 217 Shaker Road in East Longmeadow and promotes bicycles, parts, accessories, full service, group rides and clinics. The Somers announcement focuses on repair and service work; it did not list regular hours, a phone number or details on whether new bicycle sales will continue.
Family Bike dates to 2005. Ray Plouffe was identified as the East Longmeadow store’s owner in previous community partnership coverage by Monson Savings Bank.
The Somers shop is planned for a space most recently associated with Somersvillage Gifts & Gourmet Baskets, which held a retirement sale in May and is now listed as permanently closed on its Facebook page.
