ELLINGTON, CT — Whether you're picking up burgers for the grill, making one last home improvement run or grabbing coffee before enjoying the unofficial end of summer, Labor Day is one of those holidays when hours can look a little different.
Labor Day falls on Monday, Sept. 7, in 2026. Many stores, pharmacies and restaurants are expected to remain open, while government offices, schools, libraries and other public services will be closed.

In Somers, Town Hall and most municipal offices will also be closed for Labor Day. The town Recycling Center will be closed Monday, Sept. 7, for the holiday. Residents who use USA Waste & Recycling for curbside service should also expect collection to be delayed by one day following Labor Day, according to the company's 2026 schedule.

Both local public school districts will be closed for Labor Day. The Ellington Public Schools 2026-27 calendar and Somers Public Schools 2026-27 calendar list Monday, Sept. 7 as a holiday.
The public libraries in both towns will also be closed on Labor Day, according to the Hall Memorial Library and Somers Public Library hours and holiday schedules. Both libraries are regularly closed on Sundays as well, so residents hoping to stop in over the long weekend should plan accordingly.
