Ellington will come together on Saturday, October 3, to celebrate America's 250th anniversary with an afternoon of food, music, history and community spirit. The celebration will take place on the Town Green from 1 to 6 p.m., with the grand parade along Main Street beginning at 2 p.m.
The parade will feature local organizations, community groups, special guests and horses, bringing a festive patriotic spirit to the heart of town. Residents and visitors are encouraged to line Main Street and enjoy this special celebration of America and Ellington's community.
Throughout the afternoon, the Town Green will offer food, activities and entertainment for all ages. The celebration will also recognize the history and traditions that have helped shape Ellington over the years.
The Ellington Historical Society will participate with the Nellie McKnight Museum, 70 Main Street, open from 1 to 5 p.m. Visitors can explore Our Town, Our Story: An Ellington Timeline and discover fascinating stories and little-known tidbits from Ellington's past.
The afternoon will include a reading of the Declaration of Independence and the National Anthem. At 4:30 p.m., community leaders will gather for a special program featuring a surprise speaker and the singing of "God Bless America."
Handicap parking will be available at the Senior Center with shuttle service to the celebration. Additional parking will be available at Town Hall, Arbor Park, Center School and Ellington High School.
